VOLUNTEER AT COSYNE

COSYNE is pleased to provide a variety of volunteer opportunities for students. In exchange for their service and enthusiasm, student volunteers will receive free registration for either the workshops or the main meeting. Volunteers can only work ONE portion of the conference (either the main meeting or the workshops), and slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

VOLUNTEER ROLES

Volunteer roles and duties may include any of the following tasks:

  • Support at the registration/information desk

  • Monitoring session rooms

  • Audio and video support during oral sessions

  • Speaker support

  • Greeters/Crowd control

  • Helping members of the organizing committee with other tasks

In general, no special skills are required except for a small number of positions where we are looking for individuals with good photography and/or A/V skills.

ELIGIBILITY

Cosyne attendees are only eligible for one discount per registration, therefore, for example, travel grant recipients are not eligible to become volunteers.

EXPECTATIONS

Main Meeting:

  • Volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of eight (8) hours in two-hour shifts across 2 to 4 days. Please do not apply if you are unable to work a minimum of 8 hours.

Workshops:

  • Volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of 6 hours in one-hour shifts across 1 to 2 days. These shifts will occur when workshops are in session, NOT during the afternoon break. Please do not apply if you are unable to work a minimum of 6 hours.

As we want those who volunteer to be able to attend the majority of the conference, you will be able to request your preferred work times. While these times cannot be guaranteed they will be accommodated as best as possible.

HOW TO APPLY

IMPORTANT: Applicants who are selected must commit to attending and fulfilling the assigned responsibilities. If you are unsure whether you will be able to attend the conference, please do not apply.

Apply here: Student Volunteer Application

The deadline to apply is 31 January 2025 or until spots are filled, whichever comes first. Please remember that applying does not guarantee a spot, as several factors influence acceptance or non-acceptance. Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis.

Please note that volunteers are responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements.
