Talk Title

Towards a unifying basis of absolute auditory thresholds

Talk Abstract

Detecting sounds in quiet is the simplest perceptual task performed by the auditory system, but the underlying neural mechanisms are still not understood. Here we provide neural and behavioural evidence suggesting that this task may be solved by a simple probabilistic “continuous-look” model according to which the stimulus, at any point in time, has a certain probability of exceeding threshold and being detected.
