Talk Title
Psychophysical and physiological evidence for fast binaural processing
Talk Abstract
In contrast to its exceptionally high temporal precision, the binaural system has been reported to be very sluggish in following changes of interaural time differences (ITDs) over time. This talk will present human-psychophysical and gerbil electrophysiological data which show that with a new stimulus type that optimally excited the binaural system both along the time and ITD axis, the binaural system can be equally as fast as the monaural system. The human-psychophysical performance is reflected in the neurometric functions obtained from binaural responses in the gerbil lateral lemniscus.
