Talk Title
A spike pattern based neurometric analysis for the discrimination of natural sounds
Talk Abstract
We investigated the relations between neural responses in ferret primary auditory cortex (A1) and the perceptual detection of changes in the temporal structure of a natural sound. We found that traditional neurometric approaches, based on a simplistic rate-coding hypothesis, were inadequate to account for behavioural performance, but novel neurometric algorithms which are sensitive to temporal spiking patterns at a resolution of 20 ms or better closely matched the psychometric performance curve.
