I will describe a database of neurophysiological data where the responses of a population of well-isolated cells (usually between 10 and 32) in primary visual cortex of the non-human primate were simultaneously recorded in response to natural image sequences using micro-machine electrode arrays. The increased diversity and techniques of machine learning algorithms and system identification methods makes it very difficult for any one laboratory to data mine such rich, high-dimensional databases on their own. We are making this database available to the community with the hope that this collaborative effort could yield new inisights into the representation of information in the cortex by population of neurons. Additional data, providing the responses of the same population of cells to other classes of stimuli (such as drifting gratings) will be added at a later stage.
