To constrain and test computational models, researchers need access to a wide variety of experimental data. Much of those data are not readily accessible because neuroscientists fall into separate communities that study the brain at different levels and have not been motivated to provide data to researchers outside their community. First, I will briefly describe a new track in the CRCNS program, a joint NSF/NIH program, for funding the preparation of data for sharing. At UC Berkeley we are developing the infrastructure for supporting the CRCNS data sharing initiative, in particular, the website, data server and the required tools and services for data conversion and verification. Some of the speakers of this workshop have contributed data that will be made available in March 2008. I will describe the infrastructure we have built so far and the interactions with data contributors. I hope for an interactive discussion concerning future activities to enhance the impact of data sharing in neuroscience.
