Workshop Title
Auditory Processing: Localization and Separation
Organizer(s)
Barbara Shinn-Cunningham and Barak Pearlmutter
Abstract
What is the relationship between localization and separation in the neural computations underlying auditory perception? What is the optimal approach to separating acoustic sound sources? How does the acoustic environment affect separation? How would we set about exploring these issues in a fashion amenable to experimental validation? The workshop will be structured around formal presentations spanning the area from computation to psychophysics to physiology, including researchers in both spatial hearing and source separation, interspersed with adequate time for discussion. By bringing together various communities and in a forum that supports intensive interaction, we hope to encourage interdisciplinary thinking and multipronged approaches to understanding auditory perception.
